Approximately 31% of all electronic equipment industries have interrupted production due to the standard operation in Brazil carried out by customs tax auditors, which has led to a lack of inputs. The Brazilian Association of the Electronics Industry (Abinee) released this info after conducting a study between January 28 and February 7.

The standard operation is part of the national mobilization for the regulation of efficiency bonuses, the realization of public tender, and in protest of budget cuts in the Federal Revenue.

According to the survey, 55% of all companies interviewed face difficulties in importing, including long waits for the release of imported goods at customs and/or receiving the products. As increasingly more loads are stopped at the border, production storage costs increase. In this survey, 18% of the companies also reported difficulties in exports.

This is the association’s second survey, which included 58 companies, on the consequences of the standard operation in Brazil that began in December 2021. In the first survey, which included data through January 18, 35% of companies reported at least one major import difficulty due to the mobilization, but none reported any effects on exports.

The companies mentioned the main customs offices where goods and supplies are delayed, including the Guarulhos Airport, Viracopos Airport, Port of Santos, Port of Navegantes, the ports and airports of Manaus, Port of Itajaí, Port of Rio Grande, and Port of Paranaguá, among others.

The association stated that it had written to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and the Special Secretary for Productivity and Competitiveness, Daniella Marques, to inform them of the situation. “If the problem is not resolved quickly, the tendency is for us to see the situation getting worse every day,” the group said, emphasizing that the solution is political.
