Soy and corn exports via the Northern Arch region grew 10.8% in first half

Data from the body responsible for waterway statistics, produced by National Waterway Transport Agency (GEA-SDS / ANTAQ), shows that the throughput of soy and corn for export via the ‘Northern Arch’ route reached 19.8 million tonnes in the first half of this year, representing 10.8% year-on-year growth. The port facilities in the Arco Norte region accounted for 31.4% of Brazil´s total corn and soy exports in this period

The main public ports in the region that handled the soy and corn were Santarém, in Pará, and Itaqui, in Maranhão, with 3.5 and 5.8 million tonnes handled respectively. Among the private ports, the main facilities were the Vila do Conde Terminal, with 2.9 million tonnes; Itacoatiara (Hermasa), with 2.7 million tonnes; and Ponta da Montanha, with 2.4 million tonnes.

In the South, 17 million tonnes passed through Santos, 9.5 million tonnes via Paranaguá, whilst São Francisco do Sul and Rio Grande each handled 3.5 million tonnes.  Together these ports accounted for 68% of Brazil´s soy and corn exports, totaling 43.3 million tonnes exported of the two grains in the first half of this year.
