Sepetiba Tecon, the terminal located at the Port of Itaguaí (RJ), will serve as a port of call for the Brics Express Service, a new service operated by COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carrier that connects China to the east coast of South America, focusing on general cargo and containers.
The service was officially launched on May 29 with the departure of the vessel COSCO SHIPPING CHANG QING from the Port of Nansha, China. Ships operating on this route will make regular stops at Qingdao, Taicang, Ningbo, and Nansha, meeting the growing demand for consistent connections between Asian and Brazilian markets.
According to Guilherme Vidal, General Manager of Sepetiba Tecon, the arrival of the new service is a result of the terminal’s high productivity levels and the strong partnership built with COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carrier in recent years. “This new service represents the consolidation of a strategic and mutually trusting relationship, built with a focus on operational efficiency and service quality,” Vidal emphasized.
Sepetiba Tecon currently operates coastal shipping (cabotage), import, and export services and is considered one of the country’s main hub ports, concentrating and distributing cargo to various Brazilian ports. Its key advantages include the ability to accommodate ships with a draft of up to 15.40 meters—the deepest in the Southeast region and one of the deepest on South America’s east coast—as well as handling New Panamax class vessels measuring up to 366 meters in length.
The Brics Express Service will feature two weekly calls for import and export operations. The first vessel is expected to call at the terminal in the second half of July.
