SBM Offshore announced that the floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO) Alexandre de Gusmão has been in formal operation since May 24, 2025, following the achievement of the first oil and completion of a 72-hour continuous production test, which led to Final Acceptance.
The FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão has a processing capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil and 12 million m³ of gas per day. The platform is owned and operated by special purpose entities held by affiliates of SBM Offshore (55%) and its partners (45%). The FPSO will operate under charter and operation service contracts for 22.5 years with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras).
The Alexandre de Gusmão is installed at the unitized Mero field, located in the Santos Basin, approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The unitized Mero field is operated by Petrobras (38.6%), in partnership with Shell Brasil (19.3%), TotalEnergies (19.3%), CNPC (9.65%), CNOOC (9.65%), and Pré-sal Petróleo S.A. – PPSA (3.5%), which represents the Brazilian government in the non-contracted area.
The Alexandre de Gusmão is the second FPSO to begin operations in 2025, following the start-up of the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré on February 16, 2025. It is also the fifth FPSO to enter service under SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward® program.
