Week 202123

The vessel Maestro Diamond was the last vessel to handle ornamental rocks in May in the Port of Pecém. A total of 9,048,210 tons of marble and granite blocks were shipped, the largest amount of ornamental rocks loaded on a single vessel in the last five years during these operations at the Pecém port terminal.

Sent specifically for this operation, the vessel was loaded at berth 9 of the Multiple Use Terminal (TMUT) of the Port of Pecém and is already on its way to the port of Marina di Carrara, in Italy, where it is expected to arrive at the beginning of next month. This was the third and last shipment of ornamental rocks in the first five months of 2021. And they all went to the European continent.

Ornamental Rock Handling at the Port of Pecém

2020 (January to May):
402 blocks of marble and granite = 10,842,506 tons

2021 (January to May):
807 marble and granite blocks = 22,325,680 tons

“The explanation for this growth lies in the recovery of the economy and the fact that Pécem specializes in shipping ornamental rocks. Our geographical location is perfect to allow mining companies in Ceará and neighboring states to ship all this marble and granite straight to Europe”, emphasizes Danilo Serpa – President of Complexo do Pecém.

Tecer Terminais performed the rock operations. “Until a few years ago, mining companies here in the northeast needed to send all this cargo by road to Espírito Santo. And from there it was exported to Europe. Now, the Pecém Complex facilitates this logistics operation, and the cargo travels directly from Ceará to the European market”, adds Carlos Alberto Alves, commercial manager of Tecer Terminais.
