A world-class offshore terminal, the Port of Pecém achieved another record in 2025: a total of 387,690 tonnes of steel slabs were shipped in a single month. This volume is 18.39% higher than the previous record set in January 2023, when 327,466 tonnes were exported. The slabs were produced by ArcelorMittal’s Pecém unit, a steel mill located within Ceará’s Export Processing Zone (ZPE). They were loaded onto 10 vessels bound for the United States, France, Poland, Germany, Italy, and Brazil (Praia Mole and Piaçaguera).

Max Quintino, CEO of the Pecém Complex, emphasized that this milestone cements the port’s position as one of Brazil’s most dynamic and efficient terminals. “This achievement demonstrates our operational capacity to handle large-scale logistics demands efficiently while also reinforcing the strategic integration between the Port of Pecém and ArcelorMittal Pecém. It highlights our global relevance in steel exports,” he said.

Steel slabs are the main export cargo handled by the Port of Pecém. Produced within the Ceará ZPE, they are transported by road to the port and exported to over 20 countries. “This historic mark of 387,000 tonnes shipped in a single month is a direct result of operational planning, synergy with our partners, and excellence in port management. We remain committed to innovation and continuous improvement,” added Roberto de Castro, Operations Director of the Pecém Complex.

By the end of May, a cumulative total of 1,232,245 tonnes of steel slabs had been exported from the Port of Pecém. Kleber Beraldo, COO of ArcelorMittal Pecém, highlighted the importance of the partnership with the port in achieving this result, crediting it to excellent teamwork. “We’re always striving to deliver the best product to our customers, and part of that quality comes from our close, ethical, and professional relationship with the Port of Pecém. I want to congratulate every ArcelorMittal Pecém employee, contractor, and partner on this record,” said Beraldo.
