The modern Gate 32 of the Port of Rio de Janeiro, which is about to complete six months of operation, has already become the main access road to the port, receiving 53 of all vehicles, particularly those heading for container terminals. According to Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), carriers’ use of the new gate has significantly reduced truck and trailer traffic in the Center and Caju regions, boosting urban mobility.

Gate 32 was strategically built to serve the flow from Avenida Portuária. According to Leandro Lima, the Port Management Superintendent of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, this exclusive expressway enabled direct access to the port from Avenida Brasil, next to the Manguinhos neighborhood, and recorded 8,452 accesses in February. “With Gate 32 in operation, urban road conflict significantly reduced. Many cargo vehicles took Avenida Brasil to arrive at the port started using Avenida Portuária and the new access gate instead,” emphasized the superintendent.

Alexandre Macena, the General Manager of Operations at ICTSI Rio, one of the container terminals at the Port of Rio de Janeiro, stated that Gate 32 helped ease the flow of vehicles inside Caju, contributing to the improvement of the perception of users.”Our customers and carriers, in general, have had significant gains in time and safety given that trucks no longer need to enter the city.” For Macena, Gate 32 enhanced the service level for the logistics chain in the Caju port complex: “Today, Gate 32 is our main access, with cutting-edge technology and agility in service, enabling the growth of port operations without creating bottlenecks in land access”.
