Maersk halts Haiti bookings

In the wake of the recent social unrest in Haiti, which is preventing normal operations at Port Au Prince, Maersk has decided, effective immediately, to stop any new bookings from and to Haiti to prevent the accumulation of boxes at the transshipment terminals.
“For bookings already confirmed but for which no container has been assigned, we kindly ask you not to position those containers until further notice to avoid further costs or losses to our customers and to Maersk,” said the Danish carrier in a customer advisory.
Maersk noted that in transit shipments will be held at their current port.
