Low-value imports, which include international e-commerce orders, totaled US$ 8.49 billion up to September, more than doubling the US$ 3.92 billion recorded in the same period last year. As accounted for by the Central Bank, the value of these smaller purchases totals US$ 10.24 billion in a year.

Small-value exports also increased, albeit reaching lower values: US$ 2.89 billion from January to September, almost 90% more than the US$ 1.53 billion in the same period of 2021.

Personal imports of goods via payment facilitators are considered low value, as are orders that arrive and leave the country via Brazil’s state-owned postal service, where individual imports are limited to US$ 3,000 per operation.
