Itaqui Grain Terminal to Receive R$ 1.5 Billion in Investments

The expansion project for the Maranhão Grain Terminal (TEGRAM) at the Port of Itaqui has received authorization to build a new docking berth, as well as expand silos and warehouses, with an estimated investment of R$ 1.5 billion.
Approximately 70% of the funding will be provided by Banco do Nordeste.
This terminal handles 97% of the grain production from the Matopiba region, which includes the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia.

Project Details
- New Docking Berth: Capacity for up to three ships simultaneously.
- Total Investment: R$ 1.5 billion.
- Start of Works: Expected in the second half of 2025.

- Current Capacity: 16 million tons/year
- Post-Expansion Capacity: 23.5 million tons/year (+30%)
Storage Capacity
- Current Capacity: 500,000 tons
- Post-Expansion Capacity: 800,000 tons
Regional Importance of TEGRAM
- The primary outlet for grains from the Matopiba region (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia).
- 97% of regional production passes through TEGRAM.

- Soybeans: 36.1% growth, with an increase of 8 million tonnes, reaching 29.9 million tonnes.
- Corn: 34.5% growth, rising from 13.2 million to 17.8 million tons.

Product Expansion
- The first export of sorghum was recently made to the European market (Spain), including sorghum and corn produced in Maranhão and Piauí.
These actions aim to solidify the Port of Itaqui as the largest grain exporter in the Northern Arc of Brazil, which covers states such as Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, and Maranhão.
