Itajaí Leads Brazil in Imports for Two Consecutive Years

Itajaí, located on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, has been the leading Brazilian city in merchandise imports for the past two years. In 2024, the municipality recorded an import volume of $15.91 billion, representing a 21% increase compared to 2023 ($13.14 billion).

In terms of total volume, companies in Itajaí imported 6.6 billion kilograms of net goods, with over 60% of imports originating from China. Key products included ethylene polymers, copper, and vehicle accessories.

In addition to Itajaí, the “top 5” importing cities included Manaus, which came in second place with $15.84 billion in imports, followed by São Paulo, which had $9.52 billion, Petrópolis (RJ), which had $8.22 billion, and Rio de Janeiro, which had $7.31 billion. The data comes from Comex Stat, Brazil’s official foreign trade statistics system, and was compiled by Tek Trade, a company specializing in imports and exports.
