The total cargo throughput of the ports in Paraná between January and April 2025 reached 22,837,680 tons, a figure 6.8% higher than the same period last year, which totaled 21,377,501 tons. Soybeans recorded the highest export volume, at 5,495,034 tons — a 10% increase from 2024 (4,985,019 tons).

“The consistent growth of the ports in Paraná in recent years is the result of the rigorous work carried out by our technical team, both in logistics and throughout the entire operational process,” emphasized the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

Soybean meal also showed a significant increase during the period. From 1,986,107 tons in 2024, it jumped to 2,407,836 tons in 2025 — a growth of 21%. “Brazil entered this market to help fill the gap left by Argentina, which is facing crop issues and ended up gaining a strong foothold. Argentina operates with outdated infrastructure, while Brazil is investing and managing to be more efficient and competitive,” explained Giovani Ferreira, a member of the Board of Directors of Portos do Paraná.

In terms of imports, fertilizers stood out, reaching 3,395,960 tons handled at the ports in Paraná between January and April this year. This volume is 7% higher than in the same period last year when 3,179,252 tons were recorded.

Record number of trucks

Due to the high demand for soybeans and soybean meal, the volume of trucks reached a historic record at the Sorting Yard of the Port of Paranaguá. From January to April this year, 181,651 trucks passed through the yard, surpassing the previous record for the same period in 2020, which was 175,280 vehicles.

Focused on receiving bulk vegetable solids, the yard handled mainly soybean grains (5,495,034 tons) and soybean meal (2,407,836 tons) during the first four months of the year. Most of these shipments came from the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.

“We have a rigorous inspection system that ensures customers receive products free from contaminants, which increases international interest in our goods,” said Gabriel Vieira, Operations Director at Portos do Paraná.

The main objectives of the Sorting Yard are to remove excess vehicles from the access roads to the port and to assess the quality of the cargo to be exported. The facility is also responsible for scheduling the date and time each truck enters, helping to avoid traffic jams on the BR-277 highway.
