The Guará Integrated Terminal, located in the countryside of São Paulo, celebrates ten years since its inauguration in 2015, establishing itself as a strategic vector for the development of VLI’s sugar operations. This logistics solutions company operates railways, ports, and terminals. The company’s first asset dedicated exclusively to sugar handling, the terminal, has more than tripled its transported volume over the past decade, jumping from 1.38 million to 4.5 million tonnes in the 2024/2025 crop year.

This milestone highlights the terminal’s importance in the flow of Brazil’s sugar production. The volume handled by the terminal during the last crop year for export through the Luiz Antonio Mesquita Port Integrated Terminal (Tiplam) accounted for around 70% of the total 6.2 million tonnes transported via the Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA) by VLI in the 2024/2025 season.
The Guará Integrated Terminal ships VHP (Very High Polarization) sugar supplied by 29 mills.

A co-creation case
In 2020, VLI inaugurated a new warehouse at the terminal, developed in partnership with Tereos, one of Brazil’s leading companies in the production of sugar, ethanol, and energy from sugarcane biomass. With the facility, the terminal can now store 160,000 tonnes of product. Combined with a cutting-edge integrated system, the asset ensures much greater agility in exporting cargo to the Baixada Santista region.

“Brazil is the world’s largest sugar producer and exporter, with southeastern states such as São Paulo and Minas Gerais accounting for a significant share of that volume. That’s why the sugar segment is strategic for VLI. And it was precisely to keep up with its development that we built the Guará terminal, our first asset dedicated exclusively to this cargo. With its modern facilities, we deliver operational efficiency that directly impacts our clients’ results, making their sugar exports via Santos more competitive,” says Marcelo Cardoso, VLI’s operations director for the Southeast Corridor.

Connection with the FCA
VLI’s Southeast Corridor is a high-efficiency logistics system that handles import and export flows via the Centro-Atlântica Railway and the Luiz Antonio Mesquita Port Integrated Terminal, Tiplam, located in Santos (SP). Its coverage area includes states such as São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, and the Federal District, mainly transporting sugar, grains, and fertilizers.
The corridor’s infrastructure also includes two integrated terminals, in Uberaba (MG) and Guará (SP), where cargo is transferred to the railway system. Tiplam also has a positive impact on the Baixada Santista region, as all its exports are carried out by rail, contributing to local traffic and the environment since rail transport emits up to nine times less CO² than road transport.
