Farmers struggle to receive imported inputs

Soybean planting has started and many farmers have still not received fertilizers and pesticides since producers face delays in the delivery of agricultural inputs.
Brazil imports 76% of active ingredients and formulated products. Of these, 32% are from China, which has been rethinking its energy policy. As a result, yellow phosphorus products – which is the raw material for glyphosate, grifo zenato, and acephate – were compromised in the supplement chain process.

Freight lines are also causing problems. Due to the pandemic, some lines were reduced to South America, causing the cost of containers to increase about 4 times, explains Christian Lohbauer, the president of the association of defensive, biochemical, and seed companies.
