EU-China trade grows 32.4% and could close the year at US$ 700 bi

In the first eight months of 2021, trade volume between China and the European Union (EU) increased 32.4% year on year. Annual trade volume could set a new record and exceed US$700 billion, said Zhai Qian, an official at the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOC) at the 16th China-EU Business and Technology Cooperation Fair.

The number of trips made by China-Europe freight trains exceeded 10,000 in the same period, an annual increase of 32%. In the first seven months of this year, China’s investment in the EU and EU investment in China grew by 86.1% and 10.9%, respectively, in annual terms, according to Zhai.

“The economies of China and the EU are highly complementary. In recent years, bilateral economic and trade exchanges have expanded in breadth and depth, and the stability and resilience of industrial and supply chains have increased,” said Zhai.
