According to the National Mining Agency, companies that own mining dams should remain on alert until next Friday (01/31). According to the new INMET (National Meteorological Institute) forecasts, there will still be heavy rains in the coming days in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Goiás.
The highest intensity of rain should occur in the central north region of Goiás, coastal regions of Espírito Santo, central-south region of Minas Gerais and mountain region of Rio de Janeiro. ANM inspectors ask that dam safety teams remain on alert with daily monitoring of the condition of the structures – especially the state of conservation – in addition to maintaining special attention to the water intakes of the spillways, to ensure the capacity of the spillways does not exceed their limit.
In the event of any abnormal situation, the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM) must be activated and the SIGBM (Integrated Dam Safety Management System) must be informed immediately.
