China approves beef imports from Italy
Oct, 26, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202141
China’s customs administration said on Tuesday that it had approved beef imports from Italy as of October 26th.
China relies heavily on imports to meet the growing demand for meat from an increasingly affluent middle class.
It is worth remembering that China is no longer receiving beef from Brazil. Since September 4, following a sanitary protocol between the two countries, Brazil voluntarily suspended its sales to the Chinese market after the confirmation of two atypical cases of “mad cow” disease in Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais. Although sales have been halted by the decision of the Brazilian government, it is up to China to determine the end of the embargo, which has not yet occurred.
