On Thursday, the trading company and processor of agricultural products Bunge announced its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels, in addition to reducing indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 12%.

According to Bunge, the company’s commitment to having deforestation-free supply chains by 2025 is an important factor in achieving its emission reduction targets.

The release follows a joint statement by Bunge and other agribusiness leaders at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) to accelerate industry action in combating climate change.

The company will seek to make improvements to its global operations by promoting decarbonization through support for regenerative agricultural practices. It also wants to improve transport and logistics to achieve these goals.

“The expectation is that a substantial part of the emissions reduction within its supply chains will be driven by Bunge’s commitment to achieving deforestation-free supply chains by 2025 — the shortest timeframe in the industry,” the company said in a statement.
