Brazil’s machinery exports grow 25.2% up to Oct; sector deficit totals USD 10.02 bln

Brazilian machinery and equipment exports increased by 24.2% in October compared to the same month last year, totaling US$ 1.10 billion. In addition, foreign sales increased by 6.4% in September compared to the previous month.

From January to October YTD, exports totaled US$ 10.02 billion, an increase of 25.2% compared to the total registered in the same period of 2021. However, with a rise of 13%, imports totaled US$ 20.37 billion, and the sector recorded a deficit of US$ 10.35 billion in the first ten months of the year.

These figures were included in the balance sheet released on November 30 by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq). “This is the sixth consecutive month in which foreign sales exceed US$ 1 billion,” according to the association. This demonstrates strong performance as data such as these were not seen since mid-2012.”

On the other hand, imports totaled US$ 2.17 billion in October, 3.5% less than in September and 10.9% more than in the same month of the previous year. In the year-to-date result (January to October), purchases from abroad reached US$ 20.37 billion, 13% above that registered in the same period of 2021.

In terms of the domestic market, the Abimaq balance sheet indicated that sales by the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry totaled R$ 26.2 billion in October, a 9.4% decrease from the same month the previous year. There was also a 10.4% decrease from September.

Sales totaled BRL 262.6 billion in the fiscal year from January to October, a 5.1% decrease from the same period in 2021.
