Brazil’s Federal Police investigates corruption at Espírito Santo port authority

Brazil’s Federal Police launched Operation Corsaires yesterday, to investigate the alleged criminal organization that worked at the Espírito Santo port authority, between 2015 and 2018, rigging tenders and diverting public funds from closed contracts with service providers, one of them involving a car rental company. Senator Rose de Freitas is one of the targets of search warrants carried out.

According to Datamar, the main terminals at the port of Vitória are TVV, Capuaba, PEIU, the commercial pier and Paul. The calls at TVV in the first quarter of 2021 were within the range of previous years. Capuaba, on the other hand, saw the number of calls maintain last year’s substantial increase.

In all, the police searched ten addresses of homes and businesses in the municipalities of Vitória, Cariacica and Serra, in Espírito Santo, and in Brasília, in the Federal District. In addition, agents are serving two temporary arrest warrants. A third person was arrested for the illegal possession of weapons, the police said.
