Data from Secex analyzed by Cepea show that Brazilian wheat imports continue to rise in 2025, totaling 3.092 million tons for the year to date (through May)—the highest volume since 2001. Over the past 12 months, nearly 7 million tons have entered the country, a level not seen in six years. According to the research center, increased wheat availability from Argentina over the last two years has supported Brazil’s import growth.
Here is a historical overview of Brazilian wheat and wheat product imports starting from January 2022. The chart was created using DataLiner data:

AGRIBUSINESS EXPORTS IN MAY
Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled USD 14.9 billion in May 2025. Despite a slight 1.4% drop compared to the same month last year, the result demonstrates resilience in the face of a 4.2% decline in shipped volume, underscoring the strategic importance of the sector to Brazil’s export performance. The decrease was partially offset by a 2.9% increase in the average prices of exported products. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), under the leadership of Minister Carlos Fávaro, has been working to expand markets and diversify the export portfolio.
