Brazilian poultry will benefit from new US tariffs

U.S. tariffs have been imposed. They are on hold for 90 days, they are raised, they are withdrawn and so on. This is today’s new “strategy:” the only thing for certain is uncertainty.
But these situations can be shocking, but in the end, new windows of opportunity are open.
With the new American trade policy – the tariff hike (tarifaço as they call it in Portuguese) – one of these beneficiaries in the poultry industry will be Brazil. Brazil is one of the largest chicken producers and the largest chicken exporter in the world.
Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), said to Brazilian media a few days ago that the country is aware that they compete with other nations in other animal proteins, such as pork or tilapia. But, when it comes to chicken, an opportunity has opened to increase exports to China (and other countries), taking the place of imports from the U.S.
As per ABPA data, Brazil exported 13.8% more chicken in volume this past March, compared to the same month last year, a total of 418,200 (metric tons) MT. In the first quarter of 2025, exported chicken volume was 13.7% higher compared to the same period last year. And the country’s first export destination was China with 46,400 MT, 19.3% more than in March 2024. According to the organization’s report, Brazil’s average export data indicates record high exports this year.
So, let’s not be surprised if these percentages are even better in a few months.

The chess game is becoming more and more interesting. Perhaps Brazil will position itself as the winner, but in many ways it already has. Brazilian chicken will be everywhere.
