Brazilian Pork Exports Post Double-Digit Growth in Q1 2025

Week 202517

Brazil’s pork exports recorded strong double-digit growth in March and throughout the first quarter of 2025, surpassing expectations even before the effects of recent U.S. tariff policies began to impact the global market.

According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), shipments rose by 26.6% in March 2025 and 16.4% in January–March, based on official data from the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MCT).

This early-year performance supports ABPA’s January forecast that Brazil could mark its third consecutive year of growing pork exports. For 2025, the projected volume is 1.45 million tons, a 7.4% increase over the previous year.

“These figures confirm the sector’s strength in diversifying export destinations, which should further reinforce the positive outlook for 2025,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.

March Pork Export Highlights

In March, export volume reached 116.3 thousand tons, compared to 91.9 thousand tons in March 2024. Export revenues surged even more, totaling US$ 278 million—up 44.2% from US$ 192.8 million in the previous year.

Although average export prices have declined about 17% from November’s peak, they remain 20% higher than levels recorded 12 months ago.

Q1 Pork Export Performance

Cumulative pork exports for Q1 reached 336.8 thousand tons, up from 289.4 thousand tons in Q1 2024. Revenue totaled US$ 789 million, a 32% increase compared to US$ 597.7 million over the same period last year.

Top Markets for Brazilian Pork

The Philippines remained the top destination in March, importing 27,000 tons—an 85% year-over-year increase. China followed with 14,100 tons (-27.3%), then Hong Kong with 12,500 tons (+68.2%), Japan with 9,800 tons (+83.4%), and Chile with 8,400 tons (+12.7%). Mexico, a recently opened market, also stood out with 4,600 tons, ranking eighth among importers.

Given the recent wave of tariffs imposed by the U.S.—Mexico’s primary pork supplier, this market is up-and-coming for Brazilian exporters. Santin concluded, “Nearly all importing countries saw strong growth in March, many posting increases well above the double-digit mark.”
