Jun, 25, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202526
Argentina’s exports of fresh beef reached nearly 53,800 tonnes in May 2025, generating total revenue of USD 293.6 million, according to Clarín, based on data from the Argentine Beef Exporters Consortium (ABC).
Compared to May 2024, volumes exported last month declined by 3.8%. However, revenue rose 30% year-on-year, reflecting a recovery in average prices (Brazilian beef prices have also seen gains in foreign markets throughout 2025).
The average price of Argentine beef reached USD 5,459 per tonne in May 2025 — up 7.9% from April 2025 and 35.1% higher than in May 2024.
Compared to April 2025, May shipments increased slightly by 1.4%, while revenue rose 9.4% over the same period.
However, the USD 5,459/tonne achieved in May 2025 is still USD 840 below the peak recorded in April 2022.
Here is a historical overview of Argentine beef exports starting from January 2022. The chart was created using DataLiner data:

China Bought Over 70% of Total Shipments
Much like Brazil’s beef export sector, China remains Argentina’s most important market for fresh beef.
In May 2025, China accounted for 70.9% of Argentina’s total beef exports — an even greater dependency than Brazil, which sends about 50% of its annual beef exports to the Asian country.
Last month, Clarín reported that China purchased 13,600 tonnes of bone-in beef (USD 27 million) and another 24,500 tonnes of boneless beef (USD 117.7 million) from Argentina.
Overall, China accounted for 67% of Argentina’s cumulative beef exports from January to May 2025.
However, the average price of Argentine beef sold to China in May 2025 was USD 4,802 per tonne — well below the USD 5,900 per tonne reached in May 2022.
Year-to-Date Results
From January to May 2025, Argentina exported 250,400 tonnes of chilled and frozen beef, valued at USD 1.262 billion — a 20.6% decrease in volume compared to the same period last year.
Despite the decline in volume, revenue increased by 4.9% year-over-year.
Offal Exports on the Rise
In addition to chilled and frozen beef, Argentina’s exports of beef offal and prepared products also performed well, according to Clarín.
In May 2025, the country exported 9,200 tonnes of offal, generating USD 16.6 million in revenue at an average price of nearly USD 1,820 per tonne. Among the top-performing items were beef tongues, with prices reaching almost $3,500 per tonne. During the first five months of the year, offal exports totaled 48,300 tonnes, generating USD 83.5 million.
