Argentina records a surge in apple and pear exports in 2018

According to data from Senasa, Argentina’s export of apples and pears grew 25% to 407,000 tons in 2018, year-on-year. Of the total amount shipped last year, nearly 313,000 tons were pears while apples reached 95,000 tons.
Brazil was the main pear destination for the country, with 100,300 tons, up 14% year-on-year. Russia’s pear imports rose by 38% to 83,200 tons last year. The United States was the third largest pear importing country, at 40,000 tons, up 25%. These top three destinations accounted for 70% of the total pear exports.
Once again, Brazil was the top apple destination, at 19,600 tons, up 65% on the previous year, followed by Russia that doubled apple imports to 17,000 tons. Paraguay was the third largest destination. The top three countries imported 50% of the apples exported by Argentina last year.
