Week 202123

ArcelorMittal will resume operations at the Barra Mansa (RJ) unit steelworks shop in the second half of 2021. This will require investments of approximately R$ 19 million for the maintenance and renovation of equipment necessary to start production. The return to steelmaking activities – stalled since 2019 – is motivated by the increase in market demand for steel and the prospects for economic growth in the country. With the reactivation of the area, it is estimated that 100 new direct and 50 indirect jobs will be generated.

The focus of investments in Barra Mansa is mainly to meet the growing demand from the domestic market. The contributions will be used for equipment operational and technological safety projects. Resources will also be allocated to reestablish the entire capture and filtration system and ensure better environmental adequacy.

Resuming Operations

Resuming production will take place gradually. Initially, one of the two furnaces that make up the steelworks will be restarted. The equipment will undergo maintenance and renovation before the start of operations.
