Five new railroad projects had their routes considered viable on the 18th by the collegiate board of ANTT (the national land-transport agency). They will be implemented in the country through the instrument of granting authorization to private entities as provided for in the Legal Framework for Railways. This means that the projects – the first in the federal Pro Trilhos program to be considered by ANTT – are compatible with the railway network already implemented in the country.

The proposed projects are connected to seven railways in regular operation and cross nine states – Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, the Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Piauí, and Pernambuco.

The following projects had the locational feasibility approved by ANTT:

Macro Desenvolvimento Ltda – President Kennedy/ES to Sete Lagoas/MG, with 610 km of extension and connection with the Vitória Minas and Centro-Atlântica (FCA) railroads
Ferroeste – Cascavel/PR to Chapecó/SC, 286 km long and connected with the Ferroeste network in Cascavel
Petrocity – Barra from São Francisco/ES to Brasília/DF, 1108 km in length and connected to FCA
Grão Pará – Alcântara to Açailândia/MA, with 520 km of extension and connection with the North South Railroad (FNS) Tramo Norte and crossing with the Carajás Railroad (EFC)
Planalto Piauí Participações: Suape/PE – Curral Novo/PI, 717 km long and connecting to Transnordestina

Now, the processes of the five undertakings return to the Ministry of Infrastructure) to assess whether the proposals are in accordance with public policies in the railway sector. The analysis will be carried out by the team from SNTT (the national land-transport secretariat). If the assessment is positive, the next step will be the granting of authorizations for these projects, followed by the signing of a contract and publication in the Federal Official Gazette.
