AAPA LATAM Announces Winners of the 2025 Legacy Awards: Honoring Impact and Excellence in Port Development Across Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American and Caribbean branch of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA LATAM) is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Legacy Awards, a distinguished initiative that highlights outstanding contributions to port development, sustainability, and human capital in the region.

Created to spotlight projects that leave a lasting mark on the sector, the Legacy Awards celebrate not only tangible outcomes but also the social, economic, and environmental impact of initiatives led by terminals, port authorities, and operators.

“Legacy in our industry is built through long-term vision, collective commitment, and constant innovation. This award was born to honor those who are transforming realities through the port sector — with actions that improve lives and strengthen regional competitiveness,” said Juan Duarte, Executive President of AAPA LATAM.

🔹 Port Development Award – “Engineer Valentín Morán”
Terminal Internacional del Sur S.A. (TISUR) – Peru
This award recognizes the technical strength and documentation quality of the submitted project. The jury highlighted the research presented, the clarity of operational indicators, and the strategic focus demonstrated throughout the proposal.

🔹 Sustainable Development Award – “Agustín Díaz”
Portos do Paraná – Brazil
The jury acknowledged the high-impact solution delivered by Portos do Paraná, emphasizing its ability to generate sustainable environmental and social benefits, along with its replicability potential across other contexts in the region.

🔹 Human Capital Development Award – “Armando Duarte Peláez”
Port of Itaqui – Brazil
The Port of Itaqui’s project demonstrated a robust strategy for developing and strengthening port-related human talent. It stood out for its measurable impact, strategic partnerships, and scalable model adaptable to various regional contexts.

Through this initiative, AAPA LATAM reaffirms its commitment to the three core pillars of its mission: Competitiveness, Innovation, and Sustainability. Because the future of the region starts today—with leadership, vision, and positive impact.

The official award ceremony will take place during the AAPA LATAM Congress, scheduled for June 24–27, 2025, in Lima, Peru. The event will bring together sector leaders, authorities, and strategic stakeholders to exchange experiences, strengthen ties, and continue advancing the transformation of the Latin American and Caribbean port system.
