China charges WTO against US tariffs

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the country has filed a lawsuit against the United States in the World Trade Organization (WTO). That’s because the United States has begun to impose additional 15% tariffs on a variety of Chinese products, such as shoes, smart watches, and flat-screen TVs, starting September 1.
China, in turn, began charging new rates on US oil in the latest escalation of the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the latest tariff measures violate the consensus reached by China and US leaders at a meeting in Osaka, Japan, at the end of June.
“China will financially defend its legal rights under WTO rules,” added China’s ministry of commerce.
