In a meeting held at the headquarters of the General Administration of State Ports (AGPSE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Paraguay agreed to make progress in the short term to overcome differences arising from the toll in the Paraná River between the Confluence and the Port of Santa Fé.

The meeting, convened by AGPSE, took place at its headquarters in the North Dock of the Port of Buenos Aires and was attended by directors of the Center of River and Maritime Shipowners (CAFyM), along with the Permanent Commission on Transport of the La Plata Basin (CPTCP) and the Paraguayan Chamber of Private Terminals and Ports (Caterppa), as well as government representatives from Argentina and Paraguay.

In this regard, with the shared vision of improving navigability conditions of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway and the prerogative of states to charge fees for services actually provided, participants agreed to establish bases to adapt and optimize the necessary services to enhance navigability and its corresponding remuneration, from a comprehensive approach that includes other available tools contributing to the development, modernization, and efficiency of river navigation and transportation.

Finally, it was decided to deepen the current consultation mechanisms between private users and the General Administration of State Ports through a technical working group that will meet regularly.

The progress made in the meeting was reported to the other representatives of the countries comprising the Intergovernmental Committee of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway to provide further input towards reaching a solution to the issue.
