The Brazilian government celebrated the Filipino government’s official announcement on Monday (25) of the approval of the “system accreditation” regime for Brazilian beef, poultry, and pork.

Under this arrangement, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA) will be able to certify and authorize national slaughterhouses for export to the Philippines, eliminating the need for audit missions from that country for each Brazilian establishment. The new regime will facilitate the expansion of the number of authorized slaughterhouses, including smaller companies, and diversify the exports of animal proteins to the Asian country.

The announcement is the result of intense diplomatic and negotiation engagement with the government of the Philippines, supported by the close partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), MAPA, and the Brazilian private sector.

The Filipino measure reaffirms, in an important market, the quality and safety of Brazilian products, based on compliance with rigorous sanitary standards.

In 2023, the Philippines was the seventh-largest destination for Brazilian animal protein worldwide, totaling US$ 681 million in exports. For pork, they were the second-largest market (US$ 274 million, or 10% of Brazil’s global exports of the product).
