The Port of São Sebastião, located on the northern coast of São Paulo, achieved a significant milestone this week by hosting the first bulk shipment of VHP sugar in its history. The vessel, Aurelia, berthed to load over 22 thousand tonnes of sugar for the client BTG PACTUAL. This groundbreaking operation was orchestrated and executed by the port operator SEAFORTE, a key player in the FTSpar group based in Paraná.

FTSpar CEO Valdécio Bombonatto emphasized the unprecedented nature of this operation, highlighting its potential to diversify operational and logistical avenues for clients. This strategic route, accommodating the import and export of bulk solids of both vegetable and mineral origins, is a noteworthy addition to the region.

Anticipating substantial activity in 2024, coupled with planned investments to enhance productivity, the Port of São Sebastião, under the administration of the São Paulo Department of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics, concluded 2023 on a high note. The port set a new cargo handling record, exceeding 1 million tons, with a growth rate of 12% compared to 2022 and an impressive 51% surge in revenue, totaling R$ 43.5 million.

Bombonatto took the opportunity to commend the São Sebastião port authority for their outstanding performance in the past year and their proactive support for operators and users. This collaborative effort is pivotal in facilitating the upward trajectory of cargo handling.

Rafael Moura, Director of Logistic Integration at FTSpar, underscored the unique attributes of the São Sebastião channel, boasting deep and protected waters and two access points – south and north bars, making it ideal for maneuvers involving diverse ship profiles.

“This marks a significant stride in consolidating this product within the FTSpar portfolio, showcasing our ability to develop innovative logistic solutions for the market. São Sebastião has embraced us warmly, and we have confidence in the potential of this picturesque port city and the Port of São Sebastião, which has undergone modernization, emerging as an excellent logistical choice for the market,” remarked Moura.
