Portos do Paraná has set the operational draft of Berth 142 at 11.60 meters at the Public Pier for Liquid Bulk (PPGL) at the Port of Paranaguá, effective this Thursday, the 21st. This new measure represents a gain of 1.50 meters compared to the previous standard and was achieved through a dredging campaign completed at the end of October this year.

The new draft has been approved by the Navy through the Port Captaincy, with a favorable opinion from the Piloting service, and is now available for use by port operators.

“The increased draft of Berth 142 has been a desire of PPGL operators for more than ten years, finally realized thanks to the effort and dedication of the Portos do Paraná team in the continuous pursuit of efficiency. This advancement will significantly increase the capacity for loading and unloading liquids, resulting in cost reduction and gains in throughput,” emphasized the Director of Engineering and Maintenance, Victor Hugo Kengo.

According to the Maritime Engineering Management team, the goal of this dredging campaign was to align the draft of the internal berth with the external berth.

After the completion of dredging, a Hydrographic Survey is conducted, and this document is submitted for evaluation by the Navy and Piloting. With the favorable opinions of both organizations, it was possible to align the draft of the internal pier with the external dock, which was already at 11.60 meters.

“The intention was to optimize the operation. The ship that docked at the external pier can also dock at the internal one, with the same loading capacity,” explained Kengo.

Berth 142 is part of the Public Pier for Liquid Bulk (PPGL) together with Berth 141 and is used for loading or unloading products such as crude oil, diesel oil, methanol, and various types of gasoline, among others. Companies operating at the location include CPA Terminal Paranaguá, CBL, Transpetro, Fospar, and Cattalini (which also maintains a private liquid cargo terminal).
