Anderson Pomini, the Director-President of the Santos Port Authority (APS), announced that the dredging of the navigation channel that leads to the port will undergo dredging works within the next two years. This announcement was made during the VI Congress of Maritime and Port Law organized by ABDM, held from Thursday (17) to Friday (18) at the Sheraton Hotel in Santos.

Currently, the navigation channel at the Port of Santos spans 24.6 km, boasting a depth of 15 meters and an average width of 220 meters. In 2022, Santos Brasil welcomed the largest vessel ever to navigate through the Santos Port, measuring an impressive 347 meters in length.

The comprehensive deepening dredging initiatives have been included in the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) introduced by the Lula Government on Friday (August 11). As part of this program, 57 projects are set to be executed across various sectors in the Santos region.

Pomini shared, “It’s part of our future goals to begin [these works] early next year. We are in the midst of a bureaucratic process, engaging in studies and employing engineers to oversee the depth-enhancing process. A comprehensive study of our channel’s possibilities and obtaining the necessary authorizations first are essential. We are committed to achieving the deepening of the channel.”

This significant subject was discussed during the fourth panel of the VI ABDM Congress, titled “Main Challenges for the Port of Santos – Analysis of Access Concession.”
