After a rigorous process involving certificate reviews and on-site audits, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has successfully secured two additional markets for Brazilian animal protein. Both beef and pork are now eligible for export to the Dominican Republic.

Positioned as the second-largest economy in Central America and the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic emerges as a promising destination for Brazilian meat exports. The country’s meat import demand reaches approximately 120,000 tonnes annually.

“This marks one of the most significant market openings for Brazilian pork within the last ten years. It establishes a crucial trade relationship for Brazil, as it generates numerous opportunities for workers in our agricultural, agro-industrial, and trade sectors across producing regions,” explained Carlos Fávaro, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.

In March, the minister engaged in discussions with the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Brazil, Patrícia Villegas de Jorge, to address this matter. Subsequently, negotiations progressed and culminated in the successful opening of the market this week.

Following the establishment of access to the Dominican Republic for pork and beef exports, at least seven Brazilian establishments have already been authorized to export their products, while others are still undergoing evaluation.

Since the outset of 2023, Brazilian agricultural products have gained 29 new markets across the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. This progress aligns with the nation’s commitment to diversify its export portfolio.
