June results confirms cargo record breaking at the Port of Santos

The Port of Santos registered a record in the handling of cargo in the 1st half of the year, with 81 million tons. Statistically, the result is practically the same as in 2022.

In the month, the mark of 15.6 million tons was confirmed, a result that surpassed the same month of last year by 10.3%, when the number was 14.1 million tons. Loading operations totaled around 12 million tons and unloading 3.6 million.

The result for the month of June was largely impacted by the soy complex (grains and bran), which recorded growth of 34.8% compared to the same month in 2022. There were 5.8 million tons, about 1/3 of the overall total . Sugar also registered a significant increase, of 17.8% compared to June 2022, with 2.4 million tons shipped.

In the first half, soybeans (grains and bran) increased by 10.4% compared to last year: 29 million tons (against 26.3 in 2022). Sugar was the second product on the list, with 8.1 million tons (4.8% increase over 2022). The third most moved product was fertilizer, although with a drop of 9.1% compared to 2022: there were 3.7 million tons between January and June 2023, while last year there were 4.1 million.

Container handling was lower in the 1st half, compared to 2022: 1.33 million TEU compared to 1.41 million in the previous year. The flow of ships increased by 4.7%: there were 2,662 dockings, while last year – from January to June – there were 2,543.
