Known as “the fuel of the future,” Green Hydrogen has emerged as a promising alternative for reducing carbon emissions. With countries worldwide striving to achieve decarbonization by 2050, numerous fuel production projects have been initiated to support this ambitious goal.

The next critical step in this endeavor is the efficient transport of Green Hydrogen, and the strategic Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands holds a pivotal role as a central transit hub. In a favorable development for Brazil, the country boasts a connection to this port through the Port of Pecém in Ceará.

Senator Luis Carlos Heinze is actively involved in the Special Committee on Green Hydrogen, spearheaded by Senator Cid Gomes. Senator Heinze is determined to include the future Port of Arroio do Sal in the established route. This decision is motivated by Brazil’s immense potential to generate the raw materials necessary for producing a diverse range of bio-natural fuels, including Green Hydrogen.

Established earlier this year, the Senate Special Committee aims to champion Green Hydrogen as a viable energy source within Brazil. Over two years, the parliamentary group will conduct in-depth debates and evaluate public policies related to Green Hydrogen. Notably, the committee has scheduled its first external public hearing in Ceará on June 23, with plans for another gathering in Rio Grande do Sul, although the specific date is yet to be determined.
