Two Gripen F-39 fighter jets arrived in Brazil through an operation held at Portonave – the Port of Navegantes, in Santa Catarina, on Friday (5th). The two fighters had set sail from the Port of Norrkoping in Sweden aboard the Dutch vessel MV Mitiq, owned by Spliethoff. This is the fourth aircraft unloading operation carried out at the terminal.
Manufactured by Saab, a company specializing in aerospace security systems, the fighters were transported to the Navegantes International Airport, about 2 kilometers from the maritime terminal.
Portonave has now disembarked a total of seven airplanes, including the two Gripen F-39 fighter jets that were recently unloaded. The first airplane was disembarked in 2020, and four others were disembarked in 2022.
Currently, Portonave is the second-largest container handler in Brazil and a leader in Brazil’s south. The company had its best quarter in history this year, with a throughput of 329.6 thousand TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). In addition to having an operation prepared for handling special cargo such as aircraft, boats, helicopters, and machinery, over 11 million TEUs have been handled in 15 years of operation.
