UK increases import quota for Brazilian chicken
Apr, 24, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202320
In a recent development, the United Kingdom (UK) has reportedly raised the import quota for purchasing poultry meat from Brazil. The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) was actively involved in the negotiations with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and has confirmed the increase to be 16.6 thousand tons per year, bringing the total quota to 96.5 thousand tons.
This development is expected to yield significant financial benefits for Brazil, with ABPA President, Ricardo Santin, projecting an additional revenue of over US$ 60 million from the sales of poultry products to the United Kingdom.
The impact of this import quota increase enacted by the UK is expected to be felt from July when the revised quota is set to come into effect.
