More than a hundred battery-powered heavy-lift vehicles arrived at the Port of Sao Francisco do Sul. The cargo shipment included trucks, excavators, and electric forklifts, costing US$ 20 million in total, or R$ 100 million. The 143 vehicles are manufactured by the Chinese company XCMG.

Modern technology enables lithium-ion battery-powered equipment to operate continuously throughout the day without the need to recharge. These batteries are located behind the vehicle cabin and are 2 meters high and 2.4 meters wide.

The zero-emissions class vehicles, which will be employed in iron ore, nickel, and copper mines, cost an average of US$ 135,000, or R$ 675,000, and were brought on a single Chinese ship.

“Because it is a multimodal structure, the Port of São Francisco do Sul has the capacity to handle high-tech equipment, offering security and agility in the transport of these more fragile cargoes,” says the president of the Port, Cleverton Vieira.
