In the first two months of the year, the Port of São Francisco do Sul recorded a throughput of 2.4 million tonnes of cargo.

Given that there were 1.9 million tonnes in the same period in 2022, the increase is 26%.

In the last month of February, according to data released by the port authority last week, 76 ships loaded and off-unloaded 1.140 million tonnes in the port located in northern Santa Catarina.

Imports reached 600 thousand tonnes, mainly due to the arrival of steel products (275 thousand tonnes) and fertilizers (272 thousand tonnes).

Exports reached 540 thousand tonnes, boosted by grains: corn, 389 thousand tons, and soybeans, 108 thousand tons.

“The year 2023 has already begun with a historical throughput record. “We had 1.25 million tonnes in January, 50% more than in the same period in 2022,” explains Porto President Cleverton Vieira.

According to Cleverton, one of the main reasons for the increase in cargo throughput this year is the resumption of corn exports following crop failures in previous years, combined with improvements made in port infrastructure.
