VLI is carrying out the first corn export operations in 2023 from the Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal (TMIB), in Barra dos Coqueiros, Sergipe.  The first shipment was completed in mid-January, when around 32,000 tons of the commodity were moved to supply the South American market.  A new vessel will be loaded in the coming days, with 28,000 tonnes and bound for the African continent.  The forecast is that another operation will take place in March.

The state of Sergipe is recognized as one of the main corn producers in the Northeast, with an estimated production of around 890 thousand tons in 2022, 17.5% higher than in the previous year.  About 50% of the cargo originates in the interior of the state, in municipalities such as Frei Paulo, Itabaiana and Moita Bonita.  The states of Alagoas and Bahia are responsible for the other part.

Corn exports are carried out in partnership with Agribrasil, one of the largest grain exporters in Brazil, a VLI customer, with a presence in 10 states in Brazil and a subsidiary in Switzerland.
