River cargo transport grew 5.4% in 2022

Inland navigation, which covers the transport of cargo by rivers and tributaries, transported 38.4 million tons in 2022, up 5.4% compared to the previous year, according to a balance sheet by Antaq (National Waterway Transport Agency) .

The biggest advance in movement was corn, with 22.1 million tons transported in inland navigation, which represents an 87% jump compared to 2021.

Oil and derivatives also stood out with an increase of 14%.

Also according to Antaq, the Amazon and Tocantins-Araguaia hydrographic regions had an impulse of 14.5% and 13% in inland transport in the last year and together represented 76% of all movement.

On the other hand, the Atlântico Sul and Paraná waterways had a drop of around 30% each.
