Port of Paranagua: bidding of grain hopper enters new phase

On Wednesday, October 5, the bidding commission of port authority Portos do Paraná opened the envelopes of bidding 006/2022 pertaining to the project East Wharf, which includes the grain hopper known as ‘Moegão.’ A consortium formed by four engineering companies qualified for the competition.

One of the envelopes contained a grant proposal (R$592,754,669.41), and the other held the technical documentation mandatory for participating per the bidding notice (about 1,500 pages). The submitted material and resources analysis shall occur within the stipulated time frame.

According to the commission, which companies participated in the tender will only be announced after these deadlines have passed and the bids approved.

Although the bidding took place in person, it was also broadcast on YouTube, the public company’s bidding channel. Nearly 50 listeners took part remotely. All event-related information is available at the following link:

New Phase – The latest happening has brought Portos do Paraná to a new phase in its executive project that calls for the centralization of all grains and bran unloading operations in an exclusive hooper located in the Port of Paranagua’s East Export Corridor.

“After nearly two years of preparation and basic design, we have reached the first phase of the implementation stage, which is to present the bidders and their offers,” says Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná, who also attended the session.

According to Garcia, the consortium brings together large companies and presents an exciting proposal that will be analyzed before moving on to the second stage, qualification.

If all is in accordance with the criteria, “The expectation is that we will be able to sign the contract very soon, allowing us to, in short, begin the execution of such an important project for the Paraná port complex,” highlights the manager.

In addition to the exclusive grain hopper that will centralize the reception of cargo arriving by rail, the proposal calls for restoring the accesses of the Terminals of the Eastern Region of the Port of Paranaguá, optimizing the cargo reception capacity brought by trucks and trains.

The project considers the current reality and the need to expand the use of trains but also looks to the future of logistics in the state and the national scenario.

What will be done:

Phase 01 of the project will consist of the following:

  • Development of a grain collection hopper composed of 3 grain receiving lines with the capacity for simultaneous unloading of 3 wagons each;
  • 1.7 km of galleries with belt conveyors;
  • 4.8 km of fully enclosed conveyor belts with a design capacity of 2000 t/h (54-inch belts) to transport bulk products unloaded at the hooper directly to the port area’s logistics terminals.

Rail cargo unloading will be centralized in a specialized rail hopper, allowing the flow of products via fully enclosed conveyor belts and preventing the release of particulate matter into the atmosphere.

Features:

  • Capacity for 180 simultaneous hopper cars; 3 independent lines; 11 interconnected terminals.
  • Expectation of + 24 MILLION t. of grains and meal/year
  • 900 wagons/day (300 wagons on each of the three lines)
  • 60 cars per lot every 3.5 hours
  • Maximum – 15 daily compositions (with 60 wagons each), five daily slopes; and gradually increasing over ten years
  • Wagons will go from 65 t to 80 t
