According to Agriculture Minister Marcos Montes, Brazil may become the world’s greatest exporter of dairy goods, in addition to other commodities in which it already excels, such as soybeans, coffee, and beef. “We must pursue (the purpose) and become the largest dairy exporter.”

Brazil is a reference in exporting various products, and we are on track to become an example in terms of dairy exports as well. “We are certain that we will achieve (this) thanks to our hard work,” Montes stated on Tuesday, July 12, at the kickoff of the National Milk Forum in Brasilia.

The minister highlighted that the country’s milk production is increasing, reaching 35 billion liters annually. The country has 1.170 million producers dedicated to this activity in 99% of Brazilian municipalities that produce milk.

“I am struck by the fact that approximately 93% of producers extract less than 200 liters a day,” said Montes. He also called dairy producers “heroes.” “Many of them deliver milk to dairies without actually knowing the price they’ll receive in return,” he said.

The minister also reported that he had met with the European Union’s Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, to “resume negotiations” and open the dialogue between the country and the bloc under the EU-Mercosur Agreement, serving as a middleman for the dairy sector. “I told her about our Federal Inspection Service (SIF), which attests to the seriousness of Brazilian milk production,” he said.

At the meeting, which took place on the morning of July 12, the parties discussed strategic partnerships, food health, and the flow of agricultural trade, according to the minister. Brazil and the bloc have committed to putting their technical teams to talk in the coming months.
