New chicken meat export record set by Brazil

Brazil set a new chicken meat export in May by reaching a record revenue of R$4.48 billion, according to data from the Department of Foreign Trade (Secex), compiled by researchers at the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea-USP), the highest since 1997. The value is 14.7% higher than in April and 28.9% higher than in May last year.
The record chicken meat export revenue stems from the increase in the price paid for the product, which averaged R$ 10.39/kg in the last month, the highest level in history, 11.7% higher than in April and 24.3% higher than in May 2021.
The volume of chicken meat exported in the month totaled 429,700 tonnes, the second-largest in history, behind only the volume of July 2018, when 463,900 tonnes were exported.

Cepea researchers point out that the increase in volume is due to the strong demand for chicken meat in the foreign market caused by the war in Ukraine, a country that was once one of the largest producers of chicken meat in Europe, and the continuous outbreaks of Influenza Avian in the Northern Hemisphere.
