YTD trade balance surplus reaches US$ 58.37 bi, up 32.3%

The Brazilian YTD trade balance surplus reached US$ 58.37 billion in the fourth week of October, with the daily average increasing 32.3% over the period from January to October 2020. The Trade flow (sum of exports and imports) was US$ 402.88 billion, up 36.9%. According to data released on Monday (10/25) by the Minister of Economy’s foreign trade secretariat (SECEX), exports in 2021 reached US$ 230.62 billion, an increase of 36.3%, and imports rose 37.7%, reaching US$ 172.26 billion.

In the accumulated result for the month, exports rose 30.5% and reached US$17.27 billion, while imports totaled US$15.48 billion, a growth of 55.8%. The surplus in the month retreated 45.7% to US$1.79 billion, but the trade flow rose 41.4% and reached US$32.75 billion.

Considering only the fourth week of October, exports reached US$4.815 billion. Imports reached US$ 5,186 billion, which resulted in a trade flow of US$ 10,001 billion, with a deficit of US$ 371 million in the period.

Exports in the month

In exports, compared to the daily average up to the fourth week of this month (US$ 1.151 billion) with that of October 2020 (US$ 882.47 million), there was a growth of 30.5%, driven by high sales in the three sectors – Extractive Industry (+36.6%), Manufacturing Industry (+29.4%) and Agriculture (+25.9%).

Imports in the month

On the import side, the daily average up to the fourth week of October 2021 (US$1.03 billion) represented an increase of 55.8% over the average of October last year (US$662.27 million). The increases were registered in the purchases by manufacturing (+51%), agriculture (+46%), and extractive industries (+163.7%).
