São Francisco do Sul cargo handling up 19% in 2021

The Port of São Francisco do Sul has set a new record: cargo handling in the first half of this year was 19.4% higher than the same period in 2020. Last year, 6.05 million tons were handled, and in 2021, 7.23 million tons traversed the port. This data is from ANTAQ (the national waterway transport agency).

The increase was driven by general cargo (mainly wood, pulp, and cast iron), of which 2.4 million tons were handled, against 1.3 million tons last year, an increase of 77%.

Imports of solid bulk (fertilizers and grains, such as wheat) went from 975,000 tons to 1.4 million tons in 2021, an increase of 49%.

Exports of solid bulk reached 3.3 million tons this year, against 3.7 million in 2020, a reduction of 9.6%, caused by the drop in the grain harvest across the country caused by inclement weather.
