China’s corn imports jump 213.7% in July

China’s corn imports soared 213.7% in July compared to the same month last year, reaching 2.86 million tons, according to data published by the country’s general customs administration on August 18th.

With that, according to the entity, year-to-date cereal purchases by China in 2021 jumped to 18.16 million tons, an increase of 297.5% compared to 2020.

Chinese customs also indicated a 38.6% increase in sugar purchases last month, to 430,000 tons, which elevated the total purchased in 2021 to 2.46 million tons, an increase of 58.3% year over year.

On the other hand, wheat imports dropped 5.2% on a monthly basis, to 880,000 tons, while pork purchases dropped 18.6%, reaching 350,000 tons.

But in the year-to-date figures, China registers an increase of 45.9% in wheat imports and 3.9% in pork protein purchases.
