YTD Trade balance records a surplus of US$ 45.99 billion in the year, up 43.4%

The Brazilian trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 45.99 billion in the accumulated result for the year, including the first week of August. This resulted in an increase of 43.4% in the daily average compared to the period from January to August 2020. The trade flow (sum of exports and imports) reached US$ 289.02 billion in the period, an increase of 34.5%.
The current trade flow reflects the performance of exports, which add up to US$ 167.51 billion, up 35.6%, and of imports, which increased 32.9%, reaching US$ 121.51 billion. The data were released this Monday (9/8) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy.
YTD exports rose 41.4%, reaching US$ 5.86 billion, while imports totaled US$ 4.22 billion, up 53%. The trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 1.64 billion, therefore, an increase of 18.1%, while the trade flow totaled US$ 10.08 billion, increasing 46%.
Exports grew 41.4%, comparing the daily average up to the first week of this month (US$ 1.171 billion) with that of August 2020 (US$ 828.75 million), resulting from high sales in three segments – Extractive Industry (+103.1%), Manufacturing Industry (+27.5%) and Agriculture (+7.9%).
In imports, the daily average until the first week of August 2021 (US$ 844.22 million) was 53% above the average of August last year (US$ 551.68 million). In this comparison, purchases of products from the Extractive Industry (+323.9%), the Manufacturing Industry (+46.8%), and Agriculture (+42.5%) were the main drivers.
